Anroux Marais, MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, congratulates Vuyo Mditshane for winning a national award two weeks ago.
An excited Vuyo Mditshane from Crossroads was named vocalist of the year at the annual South African Mmino Wa Clap N Tap Awards.
The winners were announced at at ceremony held in Johannesburg two weeks ago.
The 26-year-old singer who is part of a local group in Nyanga called Bless Them All, said when he was informed last month that fans had nominated him for the award he was over the moon with joy and excitement.
The category was decided by public votes. Mr Mditshane said it was the first time that he had been nominated and actually received an award.
"I feel super proud. I have never thought that I would win an award. I believe that I was called to sing this kind of unique genre. I breath and live this music. I have no words to thank those who nominated and voted for me. I will let this light inside me shine brighter than the stars. I'm so passionate about singing," he said.
Mr Mditshane, who joined the group in 2009 said he honed his vocal talents by singing at church and would like to see himself becoming a well known gospel artist who uses his talent to preach and spread the spirit of God.
Mr Mditshane is an intern at the provincial department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and holds an internal auditing diploma from Cape Peninsula University.
Bless Them All Gospel group founder and music director, Amos Gaja, said they were excited and proud of Mr Mditshane’s achievement and that it was the first time in the group’s 23-year history that one of their members had won an award.
