Spijojo is gqom’s next big thing

Sphiwe Salman better known as “Spijojo Kayi One” has quit making kwaito to produce gqom instead.

“I was singing kwaito back then before I met super talented artists Sdudla and Ma1000 who mentored me and I realised gqom is my preferred style,” he told Vukani.

His latest offering, Volovolo, featuring Shack and Ed Harris is a testament that he has found a new home in the electronic dance scene. The video has set Youtube alight with thousands of clicks and rave reviews from Facebook fans.

Born in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Spijojo, left the windy city in search of musical growth and landed in Khayelitsha where his talents led him to share stage with heavyweights like DJ Zintle, Professor and Heavy K.

With the easing of Covid-19 lockdown regulations, Spijojo is hopeful that gig opportunities will open and he will soon be able to perform for his fans.
