Afro-jazz singer Phinda's emotional comeback EP marks a decade of resilience and healing
After a long pause of ten years, South Africa's iconic songstress Phinda is set to make a sensational comeback. Her new EP, titled “10 Years - A Decade”, will be officially launched on February 28 at the renowned Market Theatre in Johannesburg, inviting fans to an intimate evening filled with heart-stirring melodies and authentic storytelling.
This eagerly anticipated five-track collection draws upon Phinda's journey of healing and self-discovery, a path marked by profound loss after the passing of her husband a decade ago.
“The last ten years have been a period of deep reflection, loss, and ultimately, healing," Phinda shared.
“Losing my husband left a void I didn’t know how to fill. I needed time to rediscover myself - not only as an artist but as a person. Music has always been my sanctuary, and now I’m ready to share my story and bring joy to my fans once again. This EP is my gift to everyone who’s waited for me.”
“Tiki Tiki”, a popular song that she released in 2005 continues to echo through generations, establishing her as one of SA's beloved musical icons.

In an exclusive interview with “Independent Media Lifestyle”, Phinda spoke fondly of her roots, mentioning her upbringing in Gqeberha's New Brighton and her initial aspirations to study psychiatry.
She cited a profound influence from the late Welcome Duru, a multi-talented artist who inspired her throughout her youth. “Growing up, he was always on television. To me, he was living the life!” she reminisced.
The singer added depth to her artistry, highlighting a significant experience during her three-year involvement in “The Lion King”, a time she regards as one of her most memorable as a musician.
Collaborating alongside Sabelo Mtshali, Phinda penned, composed, and produced the EP, capturing the essence of her journey.
Looking ahead, Phinda revealed plans for a national tour and an intimate book that compiles the letters she has written to her husband over the years.
