Singer and songwriter Berenike Trytsman, known as Berry, has announced the release of her new single 10 000 Redes, her first song in Afrikaans.

Berry will also be performing live at her upcoming show, Berry Rocks! on Saturday July 13 at Café Roux in Noordhoek, at 7.30pm.

“I didn’t even plan to write an Afrikaans song! I went into the studio to check out the new music my husband had written, and suddenly, these Afrikaans lyrics just popped into my head. Within 10 minutes, I had both the lyrics and the melody down. It felt like divine inspiration, reminding me that there’s always a reason for everything you create as an artist,” says Berry.

For Berry, the lyrics for 10 000 Redes are “very special”.

“It’s a love song for lonely hearts searching for that perfect someone who gives you 10 000 reasons to love them. The song tells a story of feeling broken until you meet someone who heals you with their love, giving you endless reasons to adore them. It’s deeply connected to my own journey and how I felt when I met my husband.”

Berry comes from a family of professional opera singers. Her musical journey began early, with her first memories involving harmonising with her parents on stage. At 14, she won her first competition, inspired by pop icons such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson and Celine Dion. Her dedication and talent led her to win Idols South Africa in 2021, securing a record deal with Kalawa Jazmee.

About her upcoming Noordhoek show, Berry says: “This will be up close and personal, I plan to connect with my audience and give them a performance, not just a show. The set list will include some rock classics but also a spin on some more popular hits which audiences will love. Keeping with the pop/rock theme, this will be a rocking show incorporating my music.”

Tickets cost R190 through Quicket.
