Businessman celebrates birthday by spoiling seniors
A local businessman celebrated his 46th birthday - and Mother’s Day - by donating food parcels to elderly women from Nyanga, Crossroads and Philippi.
At the handover, which took place on Saturday May 9, Titanic Cargo South Africa chief executive officer Sugan Naidoo handed over about 300 packed food parcels with the help of Nyanga police.
"I decided to celebrate my birthday by giving out to the people,“ said Mr Naidoo. ”There is not even a reason to ask why we are doing that. Too many people are suffering. We have to do something as business people and those who can afford it. We chose Nyanga and its surrounds because we are closer to them."
Mr Naidoo also called on other businesses to do what they could to help the needy.
Brigadier Vuyisile Ncata said he was happy to have worked with the company who had been directed to them by charity organisation Gift of the Givers.
“We are looking at these stakeholders and companies to help us to give hope to people. If we continue like this, giving food to seniors, criminals will start thinking twice about the police. They will start realising that police are people too and have confidence in us,” he said.
Police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said it was great to have the support of companies which wanted to help the community.
“He decided to celebrate his birthday with senior women instead of partying with friends. That was also an early Mother’s Day present to them. We are happy when people open their hearts to help where they can,” said Captain Sitshitshi.
