Two men were arrested for the illegal possession of two guns and ammunition, in Hanover Park.
Two men were arrested for the illegal possession of two guns and ammunition, on Monday June 5, at 11.30pm, by Philippi police station officers.
While busy with crime prevention operations at Surburg Walk in Hanover Park, police spotted a blue Volkswagen Golf which was stationary in the middle of the road.
Police stopped next to the car but before they could exit their vehicle the driver of the blue Golf drove away.
Police gave chase through Hanover Park and managed to stop the car at Summit Road.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a black 9mm Glock pistol loaded with 9mm bullets. The serial number of the gun was removed. Police also confiscated another magazine of bullets.
The men, aged 21, and 50, were charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
