Philippi clinic open after theft and vandalism led to its closure

The City of Cape Town is assessing the costs of damages after the Philippi clinic was vandalised and certain materials stolen over the weekend.

The facility was reopened today following the break-in on Saturday December 23.

“The perpetrators stole the gate motor, removed the safety gate to the entrance, stole the keys to all doors and cupboards in the facility, as well as a desktop PC.

“In addition, they removed all of the hand basins, resulting in the clinic being flooded,” said mayoral committee member for community services and health, Patricia van der Ross.

She said assessments are ongoing to determine the extent of repairs required.

“These callous acts cannot be condoned and the City calls on anyone with information about the incident to please report it.”
