Nyanga police are investigating the recent killing of two taxi owners.
The taxi fraternity is reeling following the killing of two Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) members, in Nyanga last week.
Police confirmed the men were shot and fatally wounded last Wednesday, January 17, at about 1pm at the Nyanga taxi rank.
According to the association, the members were taxi owners coming out of the meeting they were discussing the Nyanga/Seawater route, held in one of the local churches behind Shell garage.
Police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation.
“Nyanga police are investigating a double murder and an attempted murder case following a shooting incident on Wednesday. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” he said.
CATA spokesperson Nkululeko Sityebi said, as the association, they are still shocked. Mr Sityebi refused to speculate the motive for the attack and urged the law enforcement officers to leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book.
“We started the year on a bad note as our members were attacked and two of them lost their lives. We are still in the dark of what transpired. We are praying that the law enforcements can bring the perpetrators to book. It is so sad,” he said.
He condemned the incidents and called for calm from his association. He said the association will work with the police to find the culprits. “We can only hope those responsible will be arrested. As I have said, we hope the police will do a better job to bring the perpetrators to book.”
The police called on anyone with information about the shooting incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
