Religious and community leaders prayed for the protection of police officers, at the Philippi East police station last week.

Pastors, community leaders and neighbourhood watch members gathered at Philippi East police station on Thursday last week to pray for peace, respect and the safety of police officers.

The founder of United Christian Movement church Chief Bishop Eric Khayalethu Mazondwa appealed to the community to protect and work with the police.

“When a police officer leaves their house, there is no guarantee that they will come back, and their job demands a lot,” he said.

“We want to assure police officers that we are behind them and they must not question our support and relationship with them... but we also want them to render quality service and everyone that comes here must leave feeling helped and happy about the service provided.”

The station’s head of detectives, Lieutenant Colonel Deon de Roock, said they were thankful for the expression of gratitude as it helped to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community they served.
