Matric pupils explored some post-school options at a careers exhibition at Zola Business High School in Khayelitsha last Friday.
Zola Business High School matrics had a chance to think about what their lives might look like after they finish school during a careers exhibition last Friday.
The exhibition at the Khayelitsha school was organised by Ubuntu is Our Foundation, a non-profit organisation, with participation by UWC, two banks and the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation.
Ubuntu is Our Foundation director Lonwabo Bonxa said they wanted to help matrics think about their options after school and familiarise themselves with tertiary-level entry requirements.
It was essential for pupils wanting to study further to apply early at tertiary institutions and check that those institutions were properly registered, he said.
“We want to do away with late applications at tertiary institutions so this is why we decided that our matriculants should get this information as early as possible,” he said.
“This will help them better prepare and also work hard to attain the marks needed to qualify for those courses.”
Matric pupil Bayanda Tosela, who would like to become a chartered accountant, said he had picked up some useful information at the event.
School principal Mcebisi Nyumbeka said career exhibitions played a valuable role in motivating pupils and helping them map out their futures.
