Entertainment industry loses two artists
The entertainment industry is reeling in shock after the deaths of veteran actor Chris April and songbird Zami Mdingi late last week.
According to family spokesperson, John Puza, Mr April, 84, was brutally attacked during a robbery at his home in Nyanga.
Mr Puza said assailants broke into Mr April’s home while he was sleeping. They robbed and assaulted him. He had been in hospital from February 6 until the day he died on March 31.
“April was known for his role in the local TV series, Stokvel. At the time of his death, he was working on a German TV series called Heaven Africa. He will be buried on Saturday in Nyanga. A memorial service was held on Wednesday at the Zolani Art Centre.”
Meanwhile, music guru Gabi Le Roux expressed sadness at the passing of Gugulethu songstress Zami Mdingi who died after a short illness.
“With feelings of brokenness and great loss we share the news of the passing of one of the most naturally gifted singers I was blessed to work with for the past 20 years or more,” Mr Le Roux said.
He said Ms Mdingi was not only a great artist but also one of the most patriotic and consistently Afrocentric performers in the country.
“Our industry has suffered a great loss with her departure,” he said.
