Wellness day for women

Ubukho Institute is inviting women of all ages to attend a free wellness day at the Bertha Movie House at Isivivana Centre on Saturday August 24, from 9am.

The institute’s Bongeka Qhanga, a yoga instructor, said the event aims to promote a healthier lifestyle and eating habits.

“We seek to address mental, physical, and spiritual health issues. To motivate young and old to take responsibility for their overall health by exposing them to the practice of yoga and other mindfulness techniques such as meditation,” said Ms Qhanga.

She said participants will be trained on breath work, mindful eating habits, awareness of their thoughts and the use of non violent communication towards themselves and others.

“This is a first annual wellness day using yoga for women living in the townships. We understand that persons living in poverty may experience chronic stress about finances, unemployment, gender-based violence and other social issues, leading to anxiety and depression.

“This mental stress can then worsen their physical health,” she said.
