Khayelitsha woman bust with R1million worth of drugs

Khayelitsha police officers arrested a woman in T block, Site C, for being in possession of drugs worth R1 million after they received a tip-off on Saturday, April 5.

Khayelitsha police station spokesperson, Constable Asanda Daweti, said officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation when they received the tip-off about drugs being kept at the house.

A Khayelitsha woman has been arrested with drugs worth R1 million in Site B.

She said when they arrived at the house, the woman was caught carrying a green bag containing 10 big clear bags full of mandrax tablets, and four small clear bags also full of mandrax tablets.

In total, she had 10 390 mandrax tablets worth R1 million.

The suspect was arrested and charged. She appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on Tuesday April 8 and the case has been postponed.

Khayelitsha Community Police Forum (CPF) spokesperson, Mzolisi Malungisa expressed shock that a woman could be found carrying drugs, something that destroys the lives of many young people.

He said women are regarded as pillars of our nation and communities.

He applauded police for their good work and acknowledged the role played by the community for sharing the information.

He said this demonstrates that if the community and SAPS have a good working relationship, crime can be defeated.
