National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza visited Manzomthombo Secondary School in Mfuleni to donate 100 packs of sanitary towels, shoes and stationery.

The initiative is part of Didiza's office's ongoing outreach initiative to reach children, particularly girls from impoverished communities who lack access to sanitary wear.

"Studies show that over a third of girls in South Africa miss a week of school every month due to a lack of access to menstrual products and hygiene facilities," said Ms Didiza.

She was welcomed in song by excited pupils. Principal Nomhle Bentele thanked the ANC regional chairman JJ Thyalisisu who organised for Ms Didiza to come to the school.

Ms Bentele said needy scholars were identified and prioritised in getting shoes, menstrual pads and stationery.
