The second annual Khayelitsha Maskandi Festival will take place at the Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium this Saturday, November 8.
The event, which aims to celebrate Maskandi music while creating opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs, is expected to draw thousands of festivalgoers and 50 local traders and exhibitors.
It will feature a full-day programme of live Maskandi performances, DJs, food stalls, and cultural displays.
“This is more than just an event. It’s a cultural movement that honours and elevates Maskandi while creating opportunities for our community,” the organising committee said in a statement.
The lineup includes Limit Nala, uMafikizolo, and Sminofu, as well as DJs Thera and Mshayi from Rands Cape Town.
Originating in the hills of KwaZulu-Natal, Maskandi embodies storytelling, soulful guitar rhythms, and the lived experiences of ordinary people. The festival aims to highlight its roots while showcasing how the genre continues to evolve and connect with new audiences.
The family-friendly event will run from 10am to 10pm. Tickets are available from Webtickets.
Attendees are encouraged to bring empty cooler boxes and camp chairs. The event will be cashless, with iKhokha speed points available for transactions.
