Cape Town is set to come alive with soulful music as legendary music icon Ringo Madlingozi prepares to celebrate his birthday in style on Friday, December 12, at the Kenilworth Race Course.
Known for his velvet voice and timeless songs, Ringo’s celebration promises to be more than just a musical event - it’s a call for unity, love, and hope.
Ringo, a proud son of Langa, has spent nearly three decades touching hearts through his music. From his early days with the group Peto to his breakout solo debut Vukani in 1996, Ringo’s journey has been one of passion, purpose, and perseverance.
Now, as he marks another milestone year, he brings with him his 15th studio album, Ikhwelo, a powerful project that echoes his lifelong mission - to uplift and unite.
“My hopes and dreams for my fans are to see them dignified, loving each other, and standing together against the crimes that plague our communities. I am not here for fame, but to impact lives in a positive way.”
Currently touring Cape Town to rally fans for the big celebration, Ringo describes Ikhwelo as a spiritual and cultural call, a reminder of the shared humanity that binds people together.
“This is a unique album that calls for love, dignity, and unity amongst people,” he said.
“On December 12, I will share it with my fans. I’ll be on stage for three hours, celebrating over 170 songs that have carried me and my fans through the years.”
His new album, written and composed entirely by him, blends his signature Afro-soul sound with modern instrumentation, creating a vibrant, contemporary feel while staying true to his roots. Each track reflects Ringo’s belief in music as a tool for healing and transformation.
“The aim is to celebrate with people,” he said, adding that Cape Town is his home, and it will always be his home.
"I came back to celebrate with my friends, the people who have supported me from the very beginning.”
