Traffic came to a standstill on the N2 inbound on Wednesday afternoon, November 12, after a Golden Arrow bus caught fire just before the M5 turn-off to Liesbeek Parkway.

City Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said crews from Roeland Street and Salt River fire stations responded at around 2.15pm, finding the bus engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control about 20 minutes later.

“All passengers and the driver were safely transferred to another bus. No injuries were reported,” said Carelse.

Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyers confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, but said arson is not suspected.

The incident caused heavy traffic delays along the inbound lanes, which were temporarily closed while emergency services cleared the scene.
