Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets of Cape Town CBD for the annual "Tweede Nuwe Jaar" Festival parade starting at 11 am today, Monday, January 5.
Road closures are already in effect.
Key routes are being closed off to make space for the fan walk.
Event organiser, the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) has planned the route for the coon troops from Chiappini Street, along a 1.2km stretch of Somerset Road, before heading into the DHL stadium, for the KKKA competition due to end 10pm.
City traffic services spokesman Kevin Jacobs said road closures started gradually at 6am.
"Please don't park along the parade route or in the side streets nearby, as restrictions will be in place," he said.

The Gallows Hill Driving Licence Centre will be running on a limited service.
"You can only get public access via Ebenezer Road until 11am," he said.
There are no driver's licence tests scheduled for the day.
"Learner's licence tests will go ahead, but the times will be changed, so check before you go," said Mr Jacobs.
Dedicated traffic officers will be on the roads to help manage the flow and keep pedestrians safe.
Mr Jacobs advised motorists to plan extra time for their journey.
"Make sure to listen to the traffic officials - they're there to help," he said.
