Constable Natalia Jibilikile, who serves as a domestic violence coordinator and social crime prevention officer, has been named second runner-up at the provincial women of the year awards, an achievement she describes as both unexpected and deeply emotional.

Speaking about the moment her name was announced,  Constable Jibilikile said the recognition came as a complete surprise.

“This came as a shock to me because of the communities we work in. I never thought I would win. When my name was called, I honestly thought it was someone else. I never imagined, not in a million years, that I would be recognized,” she said.

Being counted among the winners marked a first in her life and carried great personal meaning.

“It brought a lot of emotions because it was the first time in my life that I won an award. This award means my work is being recognised and that what I’m doing is making an impact,” she said.

She added that the recognition reflects not only her own efforts, but also the dedication of her colleagues.

“The fact that my police station will be on the news for something positive makes me very happy. We have hardworking and dedicated officers at our station, and this award belongs to all of us,” she said.

Constable Jibilikile joined the South African Police Service in 2017 and has been stationed at her current post ever since. Now 37 years old, she said her work is driven by a deep commitment to service and compassion.

“My aim and wish is that everyone who steps inside the station should leave feeling that they have been helped,” she said.

She acknowledged the dangers officers face daily, describing it as one of the greatest challenges of the job.

“When we leave our homes in the morning, we don’t always know if we will come back. We might die in the line of duty. That’s why I believe that in every position and workplace, we must always give the best of ourselves,” she said.

Known among colleagues for her warm personality,  Constable Jibilikile said her love for people is what keeps her motivated.

“I’m a very talkative person. I love a good laugh and a friendly environment, and I love people. I respect my uniform, and I love my job,” she said.

As an advocate for women and children, she remains deeply committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of society.“I advocate for women and children because they are among the most vulnerable in our communities,” she said. Being unable to help someone in need, she said that makes her unhappy, and helping people is why she does this work.
