The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Awareness Day, marked on October 10, is Move for mental health: let’s invest.
The main pillars of mental health are healthy eating habits, getting enough sleep, maintaining social connections and staying active, all of which can be difficult in the time of a global pandemic.
One way to get active this weekend is by taking part in the annual Hope Hike or Hope Bike on Sunday October 4, the aim of which is to raise awareness around the importance of mental health and to break the silence and the stigma.
And this year you can literally start your Hope Hike/Bike with the first step outside your front door.
The event is a virtual one, which means you can participate wherever you are, and you can walk, jog, run or bike any distance you like – and stand the chance to win a wearable fitness device. For more information you can click here.
All entries are R50, with student entries only R30, irrespective of the distance you choose to complete … maybe even just around the block.
