Police say they seized these guns at a suspected Khayelitsha drug house last Friday.
An R5 assault rife and three pistols, along with several rounds of ammunition, were seized and eight people were arrested at a suspected Khayelitsha drug den last Friday, say police.
A tactical response unit attached to Khayelitsha police station was operating in Site B when it received a tip-off about the guns, said Khayelitsha police spokeswoman Constable Asanda Daweti.
Two women and six men were arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Khayelitsha Community Police Forum chairwoman Noliyema Swartbooi praised the police for making the arrests and seizing the illegal guns as well as whoever tipped them off.
“This is just one step towards the right direction in the fight of getting illegal firearms off the streets. We hope that whenever someone is arrested with illegal firearms the state would oppose their bail application,” she said.
