Song competition to rally behind the Boks

Phiri Cawe|Published 1 year ago

Captain of the Springboks Siya Kolisi will need the country’s support to do well in Farnce.

Schools, squad members, group singers and composers are invited to create a song that will rally the nation behind the national rugby team when they take part in the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France next month.

The Boks’ sponsor has called on schools to take part in the Igwijo Campaign to win a share of R1million.

Lache Woldson-Samuels, regional marketing manager of MTN Western Cape, speaking to Vukani, said the aim is to create a vibe like with Shosholoza in 1995 and around Siya Kolisi in 2019.

“We urge schools to compose or sing a song that will create the wow moment behind our national rugby team. As a sponsor we decided to have this Igwijo Campaign for the schools but also the squad members. But we are also targeting the youth because they are very active on social media. They must record a 10-second song and load it to our website.”

She said there will also be activations before the Boks leave for France to give fans an opportunity to interact with the team. “As the sponsor we will do whatever it takes to support the team ahead of the Rugby World Cup in France.”
