Mitch Tiltmann will tackle a gruelling triathlon to raise funds for RX Radio, which is based at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and is run largely by children.
Mr Titlmann, from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, will compete in the Ironman Championships in Nelson Mandela Bay, on Sunday March 30. His crowdfunding drive on Ironman4Kidz has so far raised R9 450 for the station, which provides broadcasting skills, knowledge and entertainment to children with and without chronic conditions and disabilities.
Mr Titlmann, whose brother is a board member of RX Radio, said the goal was not only to cross the finish line but to make a difference for the station and the children who need it most.
“My brother, Dave Tiltmann, contacted me and asked if I would be interested in raising money for RX Radio as he knows that in the past I completed three Ironman races for another foundation. I am so excited going forward with RX Radio and raising money for the station,” he said.
He completed the Ironman in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and said while training was not going as planned, he was getting stronger every week.
RX Radio station manager Noluyolo Ngomani said they were proud and honoured to have Mr Titlmann take on such a challenging race on behalf of the station.
“He will no doubt carry the RX Radio banner and support us in the venture of empowering children with voice and agency to talk about issues that are important to them, especially those living with chronic conditions and disabilities. We would like to urge anyone and everyone, if you can, to please support our campaign by going to our Instagram @RXRadioSA or www.hero.ironman4thekidz.co.za/heroes/mitch-tiltmann. Every contribution brings us closer to our goal of developing the skills of children, which is South Africa’s future, and ultimately amplifying their voices to contribute to decision making processes,” she said.
