It was an exciting and magical afternoon, on Saturday July 8, for the young voice and music students from the Khayelitsha Children’s Choir (KCC) and Masidlale Grassroots Project who were treated to an extraordinary experience at the final matinee of Cinderella (Cendrillon), an enchanting Disney-esque style production presented at Artscape by Cape Town Opera in association with A&M Productions.
“They were captivated, and seeing their joy and wonder was proof yet again of the positive impact that music and opera has on young hearts and minds,” said Madré Loubser, Head of Youth Development and Education at Cape Town Opera, whose ongoing mission it is to nurture, develop and empower the next generation in the Performing Arts.
For the majority of the KCC and Masidlale students, this was their first time watching opera and seeing a chamber orchestra up close.
The Masidlale learners are well-acquainted with orchestral instruments and were quick to recognise the different ones used in the performance, thanks to the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s musical education project that was established in 2010.
