Driven by a desire to give back to his community, Sakumzi Vapi continues to provide rugby opportunities for youngsters in Nyanga and surrounding areas through his organisation.
Whether in official junior matches or friendlies, Vapi's plan is to broaden the reach of the game and expose his team to diverse competition.
From kasi teams to well-established rugby schools, the Sakumzi Rugby Organisation (SRO) actively seeks out matches that will challenge and develop its players.
Still in its early stages, SRO is fueled by the passion of its players and Vapi, who played the majority of his rugby with False Bay RFC.
There is a sense that the club could be the starting point for future rugby stars.
Recently, SRO had the valuable experience of playing against a touring side from New Zealand, Rathkeale College.
The match took place in Constantia at the home of False Bay RFC, a familiar ground for Vapi from his playing days.
While his young team may have lost to their New Zealand counterparts, the opportunity and experience gained were invaluable at this stage of their development.
This is not to diminish the importance of results, as the Nyanga players understand the competitive spirit and the potential benefits of playing at the highest level and getting results while at it.
"We played a friendly against Rathkeale College from New Zealand thanks to a friend who facilitated the match. They were also generous enough to donate balls and boots to our boys," said Vapi.
"We are hoping to build a lasting relationship with their club."
Rathkeale College's tour of South Africa included matches against the likes of Paarl Boys' High School, WP Cowboys, and Rocklands.
