On Heritage Day, the Langa Rugby Stadium echoed with the sounds of rugby boots and crowds' cheers as school clubs from Nyanga and surrounding areas took their heritage celebrations to the field of play.

The host of the games was Nyanga resident Mzwandile Skhunana through his Mzwandile Foundation, which he established to also play a role in the development of the game in the township.

The foundation operates under Vuka Rugby, a national development program that is a collaboration between the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU), intending to introduce rugby to children in disadvantaged communities.

Mzwandile Foundation has its focus on High schools from townships like Nyanga, Gugulethu, Philippi, Samora Machel, and Langa, all areas historically lacking in terms of sporting infrastructure.

This was the second tournament hosted by the foundation in what is meant to be a yearly activity. A total of 12 high school teams took part in the tournament, competing in the Under-15 and Under-17 divisions.

Zimasa High School dominated the tournament, taking first place in both the U15 and U17 categories, while Sakumzi Rugby Organisation settled for second place in both divisions.
