Entle Sotyato’s selection to represent the Cape Town Baseball Federation at the under-10 level marks a special milestone, not only for the young player experiencing her first national event, but also for the steady growth of baseball in Khayelitsha.
The 9-year-old is part of a rising group from Khayelitsha Giants Baseball Club who are beginning to reap the rewards of development structures focused on introducing the sport at grassroots level. Starting players young has created pathways for children to grow into competitive athletes while gaining access to opportunities that once felt out of reach.

At provincial level, the club will also celebrate Western Cape selections for under-15 girls, Onwabile Gxalaba and Emihle Mwezo, alongside boys Bonga Fulani and Abulele Sotyato. In the under-12 division, Terrence Saniso has also earned provincial colours, adding to a growing list of achievements for the Khayelitsha-based side.
The club continues to build momentum on the field as well, at the weekend facing Battswood in competitive weekend fixtures where the under-15 side edged a narrow win, while the under-12 team also produced a spirited performance.
The results were secondary to the experience, as both sides showed strong progress and determination.

For many of these players, the journey has been built on dedication, community support, and long hours of training on local fields.
Like many of the local sides, the Khayelitsha Giants players heading to the national championships in March have to raise their own funds, something that poses major challenges.
For people interested in making a donation, contact Khayelitsha Giants coach Marshall Saniso on 078 227 9021.
