Commuting from the Site C taxi rank was rather unusual last Saturday with boxing stealing the show.
Siya Njikelana from Save The Youth in Philippi had the better of Ayabulela Ncwane from Grassroots Boxing Academy in Makhaza. The two promising female prodigies gave the people a show.
At just 10 years old, Grassroots’ Akim de Korker and Imizamo Yethu’s Agcobile Dweba, from Harare, showcased energy and passion in the boys’ division.
Boxers came from as far as Khayelitsha, Philippi, Crossroads and Langa, to enjoy a day out in the sun.
Organised by the South African Boxing Federation (SABOF), the tournament saw young amateur boxers showcasing skill, grit and dedication.
Head coach at Save The Youth, Zolani Yako said these tournaments have produced boxers that have gone on to become champions.
The organisers are planning to have the event again on Saturday November 30 at the Site C taxi rank, before embarking on a fight in East London on Friday December 6.
