There was joy at Entshona Primary School when their favourite community newspaper, Vukani, delivered long awaited athletics kit last Thursday.
As part of the paper’s 20th anniversary celebrations, schools were invited to enter a competition where the winner would receive sports gear of their choice.
ACM brand and marketing officer Deborah Monisi said the company wanted to go big in celebrating the foundation of the newspaper by holding numerous events in the community but were stymied by Covid-19 outbreak.
“We started with the sports gear drive hoping that we would attract more companies and our advertisers could partner with us but unfortunately the lockdown came upon us,” she said.
Monisi said luckily sports gear company, MSB came to their rescue and designed an athletic kit for Entshona Primary School.
“The kit is immaculate and I am sure the children will love it,” she said.
Vukani team leader Voox Sonandzi, who delivered the kit to the school, said they caught the principal and her staff by surprise.
“We were supposed to do this last year already but the Covid-19 pandemic stopped us in our tracks,” he said.
Principal Gladys Xoliswa Mahlaba-Ntoyanto could not hide her joy as sports administrator at the school, Songezo Mekuto opened up the box containing the kit.
“This is wonderful. We had really forgotten about it, I remember when Ms Monisi and Mr Sonandzi visited the school early last year. We thank Vukani for inspiring our children through the written word and amazing gestures like these,” said Mahlaba-Ntoyanto.
Mr Mekuto said the kit will inspire his team. “They are really happy and I am sure when dressed on it ,they will give thrilling results and exciting performances.
Team captain Avuyile Matu said she was very happy to see their new uniform and vowed not to disappoint when wearing it.
