The library runs a book club every Friday, and Mr Igesund's visit was part of the library's aim to rekindle a love of reading.
During his visit, on Friday April 11, he encouraged the children to stay in school and take part in sport because it would give them a better chance of achieving their dreams.
He told them to have goals and not to allow their backgrounds and the challenges in their communities to deter them from turning their dreams into a reality.
“We are here with the City of Cape Town to provide you with the much-needed support. I’m here simply because I want to show you my support. We will work together to create an environment conducive to attaining your goals. We want to walk with you in your life journey, to ensure that you do not take your focus off your goals,” he said.
Kuyasa principal librarian, Vuyokazi Njambatwa, said they were proud and excited to have high-profile guests visiting the library and encouraging the children to read. She said the programme was designed to allow the children to be themselves and fearless in chasing their dreams by tapping into the spaces where parents and teachers can't reach.
The programme is proving successful because, every Friday, more children are taking part, and the library is planning a massive career exhibition after Easter, she said.
