“This 1% is R50 million and more. How irresponsible of us if we were not giving back to the community, which has so many social ills. We are glad that the company made that decision so that we could play an active role in advancing the betterment of our communities and country. I hope that the donation will help the school to reach more heights and surpass your targets,” he said.
School principal Philisa Ntshwanti said they were extremely grateful for the donation as this forms part of their strategy planning, whereby they wanted to use more ICT in their teaching and learning methods. Ms Ntshwanti said the current generation of pupils gets easily bored when they write on the board as opposed to when they learn on the tablets, as they get excited. She said this will help them to advance the growth which they had in the previous year.
Ms Ntshwanti said for a couple of years the school had been underperforming, but since she came to the school two years ago, they managed to get a pass rate of 74%. She said she was very scared when she was appointed at the school, but because she has a link with the school as her grandmother used to teach there, she wanted to give it a try.
Talking about her turnaround strategy, she said that one of the things she implemented was solid leadership and direction.
Grade 12 pupil, Achuma Matolongwe, said he was extremely happy for the donation as it will enable them to explore. He said the donation means that the generation that will come after them will have resources and tools to raise the school flag even higher.
