Khayelitsha Development Forum chairperson Ndithini Tyhido has condemed the recent killings in Khayelitsha.
Ndithini Leon Tyhido, Khayelitsha Development Forum chairman
On behalf of the entire community of Khayelitsha, the Khayelitsha Development Forum (KDF) is saddened and angered by the senseless killings of more than nine people and the wounding of many more in some parts of Site B, by gun toting assailants who have no regard for human life.
This is nine too many lives that have been lost in our beloved 7784
As the KDF, we remain resolute that nothing will ever detract us from our disciplined march towards the attainment of a Khayelitsha of the future, a Khayelitsha where residents will live, work and play, a Khayelitsha where all residents will have shelter, security and comfort.
The KDF calls on all the three spheres of government to stop the politicisation of community safety and combine efforts to route out the scourge of extortion gangs in our communities.
The KDF further calls on the three spheres of government as well as businesses to support its first of its kind CCTV technology based "Uyabonwa" project that it designed before the onslaught of Covid-19.
We call on President Matamela C. Ramaphosa to urgently intervene in the development of the Makhaza police station. This police station was decided upon more than 20 years ago when Leonard Ramatlane (ANC) was still MEC for Community Safety in the Western Cape.
We call on the new Western Cape police commissioner Major General Tembekile Phathekile, to look very closely at the racially skewed division of policing resources in the province, where priority is given to predominantly white and affluent suburbs in the province.
We call on all community members to remain vigilant and those with any information that can lead to the apprehension and successful conviction of the perpetrators of these heinous killings to contact the police.
We, the people of Khayelitsha have defined a path for ourselves that we are committed to and for which we will spare no effort, which is the creation of a Khayelitsha of the future, where the old shall care for the young and the young shall respect the old.
