Khayelitsha’s Anita Poni is the new Eastern Cape Boxing champ

Anita Poni, from Nkanini, in Khayelitsha, is the new Eastern Cape Minimum Division Boxing Champion.

Coached by Jongi Kamko at Grassroots Youth Academy in Makhaza, Poni beat the Eastern Cape’s Namhla Mankayi via TKO in round three of eight in their professional bout, on Sunday, October 13.

With the SA Title shot edging closer, the young fire-fighter has now won three out of her five professional fights.

“I’m happy, it’s a great opportunity and great start to my career. It’s going to be easy to get fights now. We are waiting on a date for the SA Title. We stay ready for anything,” she said.
