Earlier this month, Lwando Mgambi was set to make the first defence of his South African junior bantamweight title in KwaZulu-Natal.

However, he lost the belt before even stepping inside the ring, failing to make the weight limit at the weigh-in.

Despite this disappointment, Mgambi remained focused and went on to defeat Sechaba Zuma by TKO in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-round bout, ensuring the title remained vacant.

Reflecting on the events in Durban, Mgambi chose not to dwell on the setback. Instead, he focused on the task at hand and looked forward to reclaiming his title.

“I had to tell myself I need to get my hand raised and put aside the issue of the belt on the day,” said Mgambi.

He has already set his sights on returning to KZN in August to fight for the title again.

Mgambi’s upcoming challenge will be against the number two-ranked Nthethelelo Magcaba, an undefeated fighter with a record of 6-0, including 5 stoppages.

Magcaba's impressive record makes him a formidable opponent, but Mgambi is eager for the challenge and has been constantly calling for any challengers as he looks for more ring action.

Another statement win for Mgambi in this fight could pave the way for more lucrative fights and further establish him in the junior bantamweight division.
