Former SA champion Lwando Mgabi bounced back from losing his title on the scale in his last outing with a third-round stoppage win at the weekend.
Mgabi was back in action two months after missing weight for his title defense against Sechaba Zuma. He would go on to stop Zuma in the fifth of their scheduled 12 rounds, but the belt was no longer on the line for him.
At the weekend at the Portuguese Hall in Johannesburg, he stopped Ayanda Gangqa as he continued his bid to reclaim the vacant Super Flyweight title. The win was his ninth in a row and the fourth stoppage of his career, a run that positions him as one of the leading fighters in his division in the country.
Their meeting was the second of their careers, with Mgabi also stopping Gangqa in their previous encounter. Having earlier said he wanted more activity, Mgabi will now look to have another fight before the year ends, which would be his third this year. In his own words, he is seemingly targeting two more fights as he looks to ride the momentum that could take him to more lucrative fights.
